Council reports downtown business openings and summer events
Summary
Council members reported economic development activity at Harrison Commons (Mega Beauty opening around Aug. 1; Long Necks possibly late Aug./early Sept.), the Cincinnatus building lease, a new culinary center at JTM, and multiple summer events including Barbecue, Brews, and Bluegrass on Sept. 12.
Several council members provided committee reports and community updates. Councilman Bill Neyer (Utilities & Street Committee) highlighted ongoing construction and street projects and directed residents to the city's social media for the most up-to-date information. Councilman Ed Whitt and others listed upcoming community events and committee activities, including a Charter Review presentation scheduled for July 21, a 'Christmas in July' event July 25-26, and the American 250 Car Show on Aug. 8.
Councilwoman Patty Van Cleve reported economic-development activity: the Harrison Commons (former Big Lots) is expected to host a Mega Beauty around Aug. 1 and potentially Long Necks by late August or early September; the third floor of the Cincinnatus building is leased to a podiatrist; JTM is adding a culinary center; Marco's Pizza is listed for sale. Barbecue, Brews, and Bluegrass is planned for Sept. 12 in the downtown district.
