Parks board details tree giveaways, community events and master-plan next steps

Autumn Conlin, chair of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, told the council the board distributed more than 130 trees at an urban-forest event, partnered on a Rowlett Chamber 5K and supported a Schradey Middle School garden restoration.
"We gave away a 100 and oops. 140 something trees," Conlin said while describing efforts to promote canopy and environmental sustainability. The board highlighted involvement in events such as Texas Arbor Day, the annual trunk-or-treat and a community dedication for Archer Hill Field. Board members said priorities for the coming year include maintenance, shoreline and trail planning and input on the parks master plan update; council and staff discussed next steps for revising the draft master plan and returning it for review by the parks board before a council decision.
