Rowlett honors Explorer Post 1 members who rescued two people from Current River

Rowlett Mayor Winget presented a life‑saving proclamation to members of Explorer Post 1 — Scott Hart, Trey Ernst, Derek Parent, Chloe Groves, Jackson Parent and Leah Kloiber — for rescuing two people trapped underwater on the Current River on June 11, 2025. Mayor Winget read the proclamation and said the group’s “bold actions…saved lives and prevented further harm to fellow river enthusiasts.”
State Representative Rita Bowers, who said she is the only Texas House member who lives in Rowlett, joined the presentation and read a certificate recognizing Trey Ernst and the other post members. “Because of that, lives were saved,” Bowers said, praising the youth for relying on training and teamwork. The council presented individual certificates and encouraged the public to recognize the group’s service.
