Plano details Public Safety Campus and new police training facility; completion targeted by 2029

Peter Braster, Director of Special Projects, described the Public Safety Campus concept: a clustered campus to house police headquarters, a relocated 9‑1‑1 center (moving out of City Hall) and a shared site with a fire station. Braster said the team is finishing conceptual design and site planning and that council will vote on hiring a construction manager at risk later in the month.
"We're really off and running to do this project, on time, on budget by 2029," Braster said. He added that the city is taking a conservative design approach to preserve adjacent parkland and minimize impacts to neighborhood use. Braster also described a separate East Plano training facility that will be expanded and modernized and said other bonded facilities (fleet center, multiple fire stations) are part of his portfolio.
Council members and trustees discussed the 38‑acre park buffer behind the public safety site and expressed support for preserving park uses while enabling the campus to operate safely and efficiently.
