Sevier County Board honors educators and student achievements

Board members recognized educators and dozens of student achievements, including Kristi Cantrell's University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award and Pigeon Forge QB Ayden Hood's state record for 44 points and 461 rushing yards.
Board members used the Nov. 10 meeting to recognize school staff and student accomplishments across academics, music and athletics. The board congratulated Kristi Cantrell, guidance counselor at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, for receiving the University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award, and announced Sawyer Hill of Caton’s Chapel Elementary School as the Sevier County Spelling Bee champion after correctly spelling "scandium." Distinguished Scholar recognitions based on PreACT scores went to Eli Vickers and Asa Pippinger of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
Athletic honors included state qualifications and placements across cross country, tennis, and soccer. The board noted that Pigeon Forge High School quarterback Ayden Hood set state records for most points scored in a game by a single player (44) and most rushing yards by a quarterback (461). Several marching bands from Gatlinburg-Pittman, Northview Academy, Sevier County High School and Seymour High School earned high placements at regional and state competitions.
