Forestry and Parks pursues multiple grants for trails, restoration and access
Summary
County staff reported applications and support letters for trail and waterway projects including an RTP request for Lost Creek Falls, a USFWS H2C application for Pikes Creek and Sioux River infrastructure, an LWCF request for Big Rock park rehab, and a $500,000 congressional request for the Lake Superior Brownstone Trail Stabilization.
Parks staff told the committee they have been preparing several grant applications and project proposals. The Town of Bell agreed to send a letter of support for a DNR Recreational Trails Program application for the Lost Creek Falls Trail Addition; awards are expected in June or July. Staff are finalizing a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Headwaters to Coast (H2C) Initiative application for restoration and enhancement work on Pikes Creek and the Sioux River infrastructure, and are preparing a WDNR LWCF grant for Big Rock County Park and Campground rehabilitation.
Staff also said they submitted a Congressional Directed Spending request for $500,000 to support stabilization and public access improvements for the Lake Superior Brownstone Trail. Department staff have been meeting with partners, updating concept plans with SAS+Associates, and coordinating with the DNR on land-use agreements for Big Rock.
