The meeting opened with multiple recognitions. HOSA Future Health Professionals students led pledges and were acknowledged for advancing to national competition. Skaggs Elementary third grader David Bay was named a top-five national finalist in Google's Doodle for Google contest and was recognized along with family and school staff; the national winner will be announced May 12 and David was noted to have earned a $10,000 college scholarship if he wins.
The communications department honored 71 school PR liaisons and presented a traveling PR 'touchdown' helmet as recognition; four liaisons attended the meeting to receive certificates. The TI Foundation Innovation in STEM Teaching awards recognized finalists and winners across district campuses; winners receive $20,000 each ($10,000 personal and $10,000 to the school). Trustees and staff congratulated honorees and invited them and their families to the lobby for photographs.
