Plano ISD trustees complete Team-of‑8 training and hear strategic‑plan progress showing student growth

The board’s required Team‑of‑8 team‑building session and self‑assessment took place after the formal agenda items. Facilitator Rebecca Bradley led interactive exercises and a governance quiz before district staff provided a five‑pillar progress update on the strategic roadmap and the district improvement plan.

Deputy and assistant superintendents presented preliminary academic and readiness metrics. Lisa Wilson and other academic leaders reported strong MAP growth and noted that, “in reading, we had our highest scores in grades 1 through 8 from the last five years this year,” while preliminary board‑set accountability metrics met or exceeded targets in multiple areas. Ivan Cantu highlighted college/career/military readiness indicators, saying preliminary data showed a high percentage of students with documented graduation plans and that seniors were meeting CCMR indicators above the district goal: “our students are currently showing 97 percent meeting at least one CCMR indicator,” he reported (preliminary; some AP/IB data are pending College Board releases).

Trustees praised progress and flagged areas for continued focus, including middle‑school math growth, program evaluation work (to expand evaluation beyond bilingual and math efforts), and sustained attention to attendance and summer supports for students not yet on grade level. Administrators said more detailed targets and the district comprehensive needs assessment will be finalized over the summer and return to the board for approval in the fall.
