Chair introduced new Police Chief Eric Nordenson, who provided a multi-part update on department operations, equipment and staffing.
"Our uniforms just came in from Norwich," Nordenson said as he described immediate operational improvements. He told the board an evidence audit is "in full bloom," work is under way to migrate evidence and policy tracking into the department's computer system, and the department has signed a contract for body-worn cameras with cloud-based storage to improve evidence integrity. Nordenson also reported upgraded tasers and that he has signed a PowerDMS contract to publish policies and make them available to officers and the public online.
Nordenson identified personnel and training plans: an officer named Brian is scheduled for the full-time police academy and leadership training, and the chief said he is pursuing placement of other staff on federal task forces to bring additional resources. Board members asked about community engagement; Nordenson said officers will be visible at public events and the department intends regular outreach.
