Committee debates Commemorative Field fee, asks DPW about maintenance capacity

Committee member Ken Wood raised the possibility of removing the fee charged for use of Commemorative Field. Michael Stelmaszek told the committee the council only recently adjusted those fees and said the advisory committee had agreed to reassess the fees after one full season with them in place; he warned that repeatedly pressing the same request could undermine the committee's credibility.
Wood also asked whether DPW could remove some of the lilac bushes at Terrace Park while completing scheduled work to remove old stairs and asked if stumps left after tree removals at Cowboy Lake and Menominee River Park could be ground down. Jeff DeMui, the DPW superintendent, agreed to look into the requests and the department's ability to fit additional tasks into its current schedule. The committee did not adopt any fee changes or immediate maintenance orders at the meeting.
