Council debates Pastime Park rule changes on hammocks, generators and pet structures

Council reviewed Resolution 39-2025, a first reading amending Pastime Park campground rules and policy. A council member questioned several provisions, saying hammocks should be allowed on hammock stands but not attached to trees and asking that the ban on "small grills" or small cooking appliances not be overly broad. The council member also sought exceptions or time limits for generators that are quiet (for example, inverter-equipped camper generators) and asked for clarity about temporary, attended outdoor pet enclosures versus semi-permanent structures and unattended pets.

"They can be on hammock stand, but not on the trees," the council member said when reading the policy language and explaining the safety intent. The Chair responded, "I think that's very reasonable, and I will take them back to parks and rec," and staff agreed to review options such as limiting generator hours or allowing quiet inverter generators. The council did not adopt the rule changes at first reading; the discussion will inform Parks & Rec before subsequent readings.
