Chief reports candidate injury delays hiring; another conditional offer extended

Plain City’s police chief told council a previously conditionally offered candidate was injured in a foot pursuit and may not be available until next spring; the village has extended another conditional offer to a five-year county deputy sheriff who is completing a physical and background check.
The Chief updated council on staffing in the police department on July 14, saying a candidate who had received a conditional offer was injured in a foot pursuit and likely will not be available until March of next year, with that date possibly slipping to April or May.
"Just a quick update on the, the hiring process seems to never," the Chief said. He said the village re-sent the conditional offer and encouraged the candidate to reapply once ready, noting that if the candidate "does it within a year, he wouldn't have to take a test, polygraph, all that he's done." The Chief also said the village extended a conditional offer to another candidate with five years' experience as an Ottawa County deputy sheriff and that the candidate is finishing a physical and background check and could join the department if those clearances finish successfully.
