Minette Smith, representing the Wahkiakum Community Network, addressed the Wahkiakum County Health & Human Services Advisory Board to kick off National Mentor Month and urged residents to volunteer as mentors for 2026. She said the program seeks additional mentors on the county’s west end; mentors are expected to commit at least one year and to spend roughly four hours per month with their mentee.
Smith announced an open house for prospective mentors at 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2026 at the Hope Center and noted that applications for mentees (ages 6–18) are available at the Hope Center. She also said Kid’s Connection will resume March 13, 2026 as a weekly Friday social/emotional support group that provides lunch, and that a wellness event focused on agriculture is planned for May 2026 with the venue to be determined.
