The sheriff/agency official (S3) reported a deputy was involved in a two‑vehicle crash during a pursuit of an offender vehicle from Angelina County. S3 said the deputy "did make it to the hospital and that and had a checkup... but no serious injuries" and later confirmed the deputy "is released, and he is, back at duty." The sheriff said the matter is the subject of a pending DPS investigation and that the file is being forwarded to the county attorney and district attorney.
The office filed an insurance report immediately and attempted to notify the treasurer's office; staff said they could not initially reach the treasurer by phone, so the department contacted the insurer directly to preserve the claim. Commissioners acknowledged the report and requested confirmation that internal notification procedures be followed in future incidents.
