Council moves several maintenance contracts forward: tree trimming, street sweeping, pebble lime

Assistant Public Service Director Mike Testa described the tree trimming and line-clearance ordinance as the annual process to seek bids for work ensuring safety and minimal interference with electric distribution; he said contractors may remove branches without homeowner permission if there is a safety issue.
"The contractor clears a minimal amount to ensure safety and clearance of the lines," Testa said, noting an estimated 2026 budget of about $225,000 for the larger section of the city. Council Member Tom Stugmyer agreed to move the ordinance to second reading.
Service Director Matt Hiscock also presented the annual street sweeping bid covering nine cycles from May through September and extra cleanings around events, and he outlined the water plant’s pebble lime purchase—used to soften water and adjust pH—with a requested increase from $130,000 to $140,000. Council referred the sweeping ordinance to second reading and suspended rules to call the pebble lime purchase for assignment.
