Council opened a public hearing for rezoning case RZ-24-2, which would rezone several parcels along US 42 and Ricker Road from Jerome Township residential and regional retail districts to Planned Unit Development. Gabby Johnson, who lives about 250 feet from the proposed development site, described worries that drivers turning in or missing entrances might use her narrow driveway to turn around or cross her yard, and asked whether restaurants and delivery drivers would increase trespassing or property damage.
"We live at 8305 US Highway 42…250 feet directly across the street from where this development's gonna be," Johnson said, and noted long narrow driveways and experience with vehicles turning on private property. Another speaker, Julie McCarvel (on behalf of property owner Dan Block), asked the record to preserve existing commercial zoning for a parcel within the 250-foot notification area.
The council closed the hearing after comments; no rezoning vote occurred at the meeting — the item was listed for first reading and further consideration in later proceedings.
