Board explores employee insurance alternative, requests more detail and outside meeting

Under old business, Committee members Bernard Myers and Wes Pourchot said they have not received sufficient information from the vendor proposing an alternative health-insurance option for county employees. They reported the vendor requested $5,000 to continue work on the proposal. Bernard Myers said "the complaint seems to be that it is too expensive for employees to put their dependents on their insurance," and asked that department heads be surveyed informally about employee interest in a different plan.
Chairman Chris Timmermann said he had spoken with Clinton County, which is seeing benefits from switching to an alternative plan, and offered to arrange a meeting between Bond County representatives and Clinton County officials. The Board agreed that a meeting with Clinton County would be useful before committing additional funds or making a decision.
