Board approves highway material bids and $155,065 tandem truck purchase

The Knox County Board approved resolutions awarding bituminous materials and MFT aggregate bids for townships and authorized the purchase of a new tandem truck cab & chassis for the Highway Department.
Chair Hawkinson said the lowest bidder for bituminous materials was Asphalt Sales and that the MFT aggregate awards cover multiple township items (Lynn Township had two separate items). Member Bondi explained the tandem truck purchase is budgeted in the Highway Fund and will cost $155,065; buying now avoids an $18,000–$20,000 price increase anticipated from new emissions requirements. "The purchase at this time will put them ahead of the $18,000 to $20,000 price increase coming in the near future," Bondi said. The motions passed with affirmative roll-call votes.
Members also discussed remaining procurement items including townships' individual line items and the board confirmed the highway fund has sufficient budgeted balance to cover this purchase.
