Benton County supervisors approved an extension for a part‑time environmental health administrative assistant hired in April to continue through the end of January.
Environmental health staff told the board the employee—referred to as "Martha" in the discussion—has been scanning records, helping with summer water testing, tracking dog‑bite investigations and supporting long permitting applications such as those for a local power plant and data center. "She has been a great help to the department," the presenter said. Staff said the salary was included in fiscal year 27 and the only change would be roughly a 9% increase for employer benefits, which were already accounted for in the budget.
Board members expressed support for keeping the position while key tasks remain unfinished. A motion to approve the extension passed by voice vote; staff will continue assigning the assistant tasks related to records scanning, water testing and follow‑up investigations.
