Yutan council tables Thompson & Sons variance for 510 First Street to Aug. 11

The applicant seeks to reduce the required 25-foot commercial setback to 10 feet and offered an additional 5-foot setback on the south side as a voluntary condition. Costa said that conditions addressing building height and water runoff would be included if a variance were approved.
During the public hearing, applicant Jake Thompson declined to disclose the specific type of business planned for the site; neighbors raised concerns about noise and property values. Toby Davis asked that protective conditions accompany any approval, and Lindsay Nelson formally opposed the reduced setback. After council discussion about zoning flexibility and administrative processes, Council President Schimenti moved to table the variance until Aug. 11 at 6:00 p.m.; the motion, seconded by Councilmember Smith, passed by unanimous roll call.
