Commission selects option 3 for new Torrance County fairgrounds building

The Torrance County Commission voted Nov. 13 to proceed with Option 3 for a new multipurpose building at the county fairgrounds, a 20,400-square-foot insulated metal building estimated at about $4.64 million under the architecture firm's estimate.
Grants Administrator Amanda Lujan told commissioners the county has $4,928,800 of capital-outlay funding available for the project; Option 3 fits within that appropriation and would leave an estimated remainder of about $500,488. Architect Laura Anderson said design and engineering costs can be estimated at roughly 5% of construction.
Commissioner Kevin McCall, who moved for approval, stressed the funding was dedicated by state legislators for the fairgrounds project. The board approved the selection by roll call. The county will now finalize a contract with the architect and advance design and engineering work, with staff to return to the board as required for formal agreements and construction bidding.
