Commission creates 'agricultural heritage zone' aimed at preserving farming in unzoned areas

The Box Elder County Commission adopted ordinance 6-28, adding a new "agricultural heritage zone"—a flexible agricultural zone designed to preserve agricultural uses, particularly in unzoned areas.
Scott Lyons told the board the draft zone had been reviewed in multiple work sessions, taken to the planning commission for a public hearing, and shared with the East Garland steering committee; staff incorporated much of that community feedback into the final draft. "The goal is for it to fulfill the needs of many areas of Box Elder County, but especially those areas that don't have zoning in place currently," Lyons said.
Commissioner Vincent moved to approve the ordinance and Commissioner Perry seconded; the board voted aye and the motion carried.
