Brian Locker, the county's assistant engineer, told the board that routine maintenance and planned work was disrupted by heavy snow removal, creating a budget variance he described as “roughly about $800,000 and 1 point 0.2, million budget change.” He said crews are preparing pothole repairs and gravel-road upkeep and that primary and secondary mowing should begin in April–May.
Locker reported that Route 60 school-zone photo enforcement has been activated by a contractor and that crosswalks in the courthouse area currently have no dedicated county funding and will require VDOT warrant review before installation. He said the secondary six-year plan will be presented later this spring and that a field meeting regarding a borderline permitting matter will occur in the coming week.
