Superintendent highlights student achievement, state leaders to visit March 12

Cumberland County Schools reported superior ratings for recent middle- and high-school assessments, hosted a College and Career Fair and will receive a visit from the Virginia State Superintendent and Secretary of Education on March 12 with a Region 8 listening session set for 6:00–7:30 p.m.
Superintendent Missy Shores told the Board that both the middle school and high school recently received superior ratings from judges at an assessment event, crediting students and staff for their performance.
Shores said Cumberland High School hosted a College and Career Fair on March 6 with participation from local businesses and military representatives, and that a group of students visited the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond to meet Delegate Luther Cifers. She also stated that the Virginia State Superintendent of Schools and the Secretary of Education will visit the county schools on March 12; that visit will include a tour of the school complex, meetings with students and a regional listening session for Region 8 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Shores encouraged community support of the Cumberland Education Foundation's High Bridge 5K on March 14 to support scholarships and teacher grants.
