Haywood Advancement Foundation launches $100,000 business recovery grant program

David Francis, president of the Haywood Chamber, said the Haywood Advancement Foundation is launching a $100,000 business recovery grant program for local firms affected by Hurricane Helene, with grants of up to $25,000 for eligible for‑profit businesses of 25 employees or fewer. "Haywood Advancement has created a grant program and put a $100,000 up for the grant program," Francis said, adding that the program will prioritize businesses with physical damage or lost inventory and that applications will open Wednesday at haywoodadvancement.org.
Francis said the grant can cover inventory replacement, lease or mortgage assistance, equipment and payroll gaps tied to temporary closures; eligibility excludes nonprofits, multifamily rental owners and businesses with active bankruptcies or tax liens. He said an independent review committee will evaluate applications and that organizers hope to disburse funds in December. Additional matches and donations from business partners and regional organizations have already increased the pool, he said.
