Ranger Power warns new county solar permitting fee could raise project costs above $7 million

Representatives from Ranger Power, Rosanne Koneval and Charlie Mamlin, attended the April 15 Bond County Board meeting to address a recent increase in the county's solar permitting fee schedule. Ranger Power said their prior estimated permit fees of about $242,000 would rise to an estimated $6,777,936 under the county’s new fee of $0.10 per square foot; when combined with the Building Permit Application Fee, they said the total fees for the Bluegill project would exceed $7 million.
Ranger Power said the scale of the new fees presents a serious risk to the financial viability of the project and asked the Board to reconsider the fee structure. Chairman Chris Timmermann thanked the representatives and said the Board would have further internal discussion and follow up with Ranger Power.
