Carson encourages youth commissioners and summer hires during Shadow the Mayor Day

At the July 29 Shadow the Mayor Day, City of Carson officials described the youth commission’s role, eligibility requirements and summer-job pathways for students, and presented certificates to young participants.
City officials used Shadow the Mayor Day to promote youth civic engagement and student employment opportunities. The mayor described the youth commission’s role advising the council on issues affecting young residents and outlined eligibility: applicants must be at least 14 years old, have a 2.0 grade-point average, and reside in Carson.
Youth commissioners and several student participants described activities they organize, such as the annual youth conference and park events. City staff noted that some department positions have historically been filled by students who later advanced into full-time city roles. "If you're 14 years or 21, you should be going to our human resources department and filling out those applications," the mayor said, highlighting summer-job pathways for students.
Event organizers presented certificates and backpacks to student participants and arranged individual and group photos. Several newly appointed youth commissioners introduced themselves and shared how long they have served on the commission.
