Howard Doe, director of Haywood County Health & Human Services, proposed adding a $35 flat fee for school health assessments and sports physicals to the consolidated fee schedule to help families without an established provider obtain timely documentation for school enrollment or sports participation. "So that we can meet the needs of the community, we're wanting to add a new flat fee of $35 for public health," Doe said.
Doe compared the fee to local urgent‑care prices and said the county has in‑house providers who can perform the service; he told commissioners he does not anticipate a significant volume but said the option could be critical for individual families who lack a primary care provider. Commissioners asked whether the service would be available to Haywood County residents and whether staffing is sufficient; Doe said it would be a walk‑in option for county residents and that no additional staff is required. The board approved adding the fee to the consolidated schedule.
Staff also noted the county already provides CDL physicals through an in‑house provider under the existing fee schedule.
