"The price tag on this, joint funding agreement right here is $86,000," Zach said, explaining that the contract funds USGS staff and communications while the county sets up its own lower‑cost river gauge operations.
Zach said the sites were previously funded by a private entity that is no longer supporting them and that the county will cover the $86,000 for one year while planning a transition to county‑owned gauges, which he expects will have much lower operating costs (primarily staff time and modest communications expenses). The board voted unanimously to approve the agreement and authorized the county manager to execute associated contract documents.
Commissioners asked about ongoing operational costs and the county will return with details about maintenance costs and transition timing as the program is implemented.
