Southwestern Commission seeks public input on HOME Consortium 2024 action plan and $540,000 allocation

Lynnae Schueller, project manager for housing at the Southwestern Commission, told the Haywood County Board of Commissioners that the consortium — which represents seven western North Carolina counties and their municipalities — is accepting public comment on its 2024 annual action plan. "For 2024, the consortium has around $540,000 to distribute, and applicants are encouraged to reach out with any questions that they may have," Schueller said.
Schueller described the annual action plan as a HUD requirement that aligns project funding to the consortium’s consolidated five‑year plan (2021–2025). She said both the consolidated plan and the annual action plan are available on the Southwestern Commission website and that the public comment period runs through Aug. 9; the commission will update the action plan after the application cycle and once projects are approved by local governing bodies.
Commissioners asked no substantive questions during the presentation and there were no public speakers signed up for the hearing at the Haywood County meeting. The board did not take a local funding action during the session; the presentation was informational and intended to solicit project applications and public feedback before the consortium finalizes awards.
