Council opts to notify county it will not exceed revenue-neutral rate for 2027 draft budget

City Clerk Jodi Wade walked the council through the 2027 draft budget workbook, including General Fund worksheets and line-item breakdowns for City Hall, police and fire. Council Member Jerome Mitzner raised the county-provided Revenue Neutral Rate figure of 53.385 and noted the draft budget currently shows a proposed rate of 51.795; Clerk Wade said she was comfortable with the lower rate because the city has unencumbered cash on hand and rising appraised values increase the value of a mil.
Mitzner moved that the city notify the Linn County Clerk of La Cygne's intent not to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate; the motion was seconded by Council Member Oscar Marino and carried 5-0.
