La Cygne officials weigh three repair options for narrowing South 7th Street

Public Works Director Dan Nasalroad presented photos and engineering considerations for South 7th Street during the July 1 meeting, describing a roadway that narrows from about 19 feet to 12 feet over the last block of the roughly 1,500‑foot stretch.
Nasalroad gave three cost scenarios he received from a general contractor: "Mill the road and widen, resurface with 4" asphalt, replace all culverts and regrade the ditches would run around $150,000." He also presented lower‑cost alternatives: grinding and chip‑and‑seal with culvert replacement at about $70,000–$75,000, and installing a leveler with chip‑and‑seal and culvert work for roughly $50,000–$55,000. He cautioned that using his crew to perform culvert or ditch work would take them 2–3 weeks and would divert resources from other maintenance tasks. Nasalroad also noted that a water main on one side of the street and a sewer main on the other constrain widening options and that temporary access via an unimproved portion of Elm Street is a possible construction routing option.
Council members thanked Nasalroad for the cost estimates; no formal funding or contract decision was made at the meeting.
