Police chief reports busy month, new officer begins field training

Police Chief Zachary Mathies presented the department's monthly activity summary to the La Cygne City Council, reporting "Traffic Stops (384), Calls for Service (421), District and Building Checks (1608), Reports (83), Citations (64)." He told the council the department recorded 52 UTV registrations and a mix of misdemeanor and criminal reports for the first half of July.
Mathies said Officer Higgins graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center on July 10 and will enter the city's in-house field training officer (FTO) program for seven weeks. He also answered council questions about progress removing asbestos materials from the Wagon Wheel Restaurant site, saying the third-party contractor has been slow due to the recent hot weather.
