La Cygne public works officials said a broken tap on a Dollar General service line created a sinkhole that allowed dirt and gravel into a city sewer main, and the city contracted Reddi Rooter to vacuum the line. Public Works Director Dan Nasalroad told the council: "All costs associated with the event are being billed to the Dollar General Store for a total amount of $29,229.11."
Nas alroad said Dollar General has hired a contractor to repair their tap and service line the following week. The council was informed this is an ongoing cost-recovery effort; no motion or vote was required to initiate billing, which staff will pursue under existing utility-claim procedures. The council did not record a separate vote on the billing at this meeting.
City staff characterized the incident as originating from a broken tap on the store’s service line that opened into the city main and required excavation and vacuuming to remove debris; the report listed contractor and remediation steps but did not specify a contract award for long-term sewer repair.
