Board authorizes $200,000 pavement-management appropriation to let DPW start spring work

The Avon Board of Finance voted April 28 to appropriate $200,000 from an assigned fund balance set aside for road improvements to allow the Department of Public Works to begin pavement work in the spring.
Finance Director Tom DiStasio said the town placed an assignment for road improvements at the end of FY2024 and recommended the current appropriation to give DPW a head start when seasonal work begins. "If we could appropriate some funds for DPW to get going, when the plants open and allow them to start working on road improvements, it gives them a little bit of jumpstart rather than having to wait until July 1st to start making road improvements," DiStasio said. The motion by Brian Loveless, seconded by Micah Rousey, carried 7-0-0.
The appropriation moves funds into the Town CIP (Town CIPFacil/Road Overlay, Road Surface Improvements) for immediate pavement-management use.
