Library staff told trustees they plan to revise a currently vacant position so it better supports children's services during busy afternoons and on Sundays, with the goal of improving engagement for after-school patrons.
"The position that's vacant was originally designed to take on some admin work of mine for particularly the scheduling," a staff member said, adding that the job advertisement previously combined that role with communications duties. Staff reported they will revise the job description to include children's responsibilities and then advertise the opening; the change follows concerns about unsupervised, sometimes rowdy after-school behavior that staff hope to address through adult supervision and programming.
Staff also said a full-time employee has indicated plans to resign in February, which affects timing and which responsibilities the new hire should assume. Trustees discussed interpersonal and workload concerns inside the department and urged staff to negotiate duties and provide clarity to remaining team members.
Trustees did not take a formal vote but encouraged staff to proceed with revising the job description and bringing recruitment materials back to the board when available.
