Friedt Park construction finished; playground, lights and field scheduling next steps announced

City officials told the Public Ways Committee on March 9 that "the major construction of the project was completed," with only punch‑list items and exterior grading left before seeding. Asst. Public Service Director Jon Bellack said the recent installation of foul ball poles and upcoming playground work (a two‑ to three‑day install) are next; light installation and aiming by the Electric Department will follow to ensure safe night play.

Public Service Director Matt Hiscock told the committee that demand for the new field will outstrip availability in the first year. He said scheduling is managed by a City liaison and is not publicly viewable, and that the City will prioritize games for Wadsworth‑centric organizations such as Wadsworth Youth Baseball, softball and lacrosse. "The goal was to make the location available to as many different Wadsworth‑centric organizations as possible for the season and to meet the demands for games first," Hiscock said. Council members were advised callers with questions about reservations be directed to the scheduling liaison.

The committee was told the park remains closed until remaining safety items are addressed. Bellack said there are currently locks on the gates while the city completes remaining work and asked residents to refrain from using the field until the safety items are finished. No formal action was taken; the committee moved on to other park and capital updates.
