Commissioners reviewed committee appointments and approved sending an updated list to the Board. County Coordinator Lisa Zahl requested permission to advertise and hire a seasonal Courthouse Building Maintenance position to assist Chad Klindworth with summer cleaning; the Board approved the hire (motion by Commissioner Chad Metz, seconded by Commissioner Dwight Nelson).
Zahl advised that the insurance committee recommended soliciting health-insurance RFPs earlier in 2026; their consultant warned that losing up to 10 Social Services employees could affect 2026 rates. Commissioners asked Zahl to see if Medica would provide a 2026 quote before committing to a broader RFP effort (Zahl cited a $9,000 estimate for the consultant quote process).
Separately, Extension had applied for a MN DNR No Child Left Inside grant through the University of Minnesota; the University declined to accept the $4,784.14 award, and DNR indicated the County could accept it on Extension’s behalf. The Board unanimously approved accepting the grant (motion by Dwight Nelson, seconded by Kayla Schmidt).
