Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson updated the Traverse County Commission on the county’s recent tax sales and the status of unsold properties.
Johnson reported the county held two tax sales on March 27 and May 29, 2025. "We still have 3 unsold properties," the minutes state; Johnson said the county can offer unsold properties to the city for a nominal amount or hold another auction with price set by the Board.
He noted one property forfeited before a new law took effect and therefore must be sold at appraised value; the county cannot lower that price under the current rules. No sale prices were recorded for the three unsold parcels in the meeting minutes.
The Commission did not take further action during the June 3 meeting; staff will return with options for disposition or a future auction if the city declines to purchase any of the unsold parcels.
