Auditor announces May 29 tax sale; commission approves Tri-County tobacco license

County Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson told the Board the tax sale will be held on May 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Board room and outlined options for parcels that do not sell at the sale, including offering them to cities and reducing prices for quick sale after the Supreme Court decision. He noted one parcel in Browns Valley had been forfeited before December 31, 2023 and is an exception to the standard procedures. Johnson asked the Board who should mow forfeited lots pending sale; Commissioners directed him to consult County Engineer Chad Gillespie about summer help.
Commissioners approved the retail tobacco license for Tri-County in Dumont (motion by Mark Gail, seconded by Kayla Schmidt). Johnson also said taxes were due May 15 and that letters for late payments would be sent before June 1. The Board approved bills and claims during the meeting, including multiple payees and a report that 57 claims of $2,000.00 or less totaled $23,242.93.
