Soil and Water District warns of cut to statewide septic-upgrade funding

Sara Gronfeld, District Administrative Manager for the Soil and Water Conservation District, briefed the board on Aug. 5 about program activity and statewide funding changes.
Gronfeld reported three new SSTS permit applications and one completed septic-upgrade project, and said the statewide Septic Upgrade Grant program funding has been reduced from $3.8 million to $1.59 million. She also provided updates on the Bois de Sioux-Mustinka and Upper Minnesota River watershed plans, and said the district has seen more requests for thistle spraying in CRP. Gronfeld highlighted available state and federal soil-health grants for cover crops and strip-till/no-till practices and described low-interest loans to support agricultural best-management projects that improve water quality.
The board received the update and no formal action was recorded at the Aug. 5 meeting.
