Traverse County approves demolition bid, raises asset threshold and approves mileage for extension committee

The Traverse County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a $6,000 bid from Goodheart’s to demolish a house at 538 2nd Ave NW in Browns Valley. County Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson told the board he received a single bid and recommended acceptance; the motion carried 4-0.
Johnson also reported two unsold parcels remaining from the last tax sale (one in Browns Valley and one in Wheaton) and asked the board to authorize selling them with a $200 starting bid if the cities do not respond within 60 days; the board approved that plan unanimously. The board voted 4-0 to raise the county capital asset threshold from $5,000 to $10,000 effective Jan. 1, 2025, and approved paying mileage to members of the Traverse County Extension Committee after a motion by Commissioner Mark Gail, seconded by Commissioner Kayla Schmidt.
