Committee briefed on state assessment RFP and rising cut scores; division to step up parent communication

Committee members were briefed that the Virginia Department of Education had released an RFP for the state's new assessment system and that the work could inform cut-score and accreditation policy heading into 2027. "VDOE has, released the RFP for the new state assessment system as of yesterday," Mr. Andrews said.
Cheryl Woodhouse told the committee, "the cut scores have changed. So the level of rigor did increase," and she said the division expects to communicate changes to parents and staff. The group noted that the public-facing presentation of SOL scores will shift to a 100-point scale and that some temporary dips in pass rates could reflect the more rigorous cut scores rather than changes in student learning.
