Commissioners approve CLG grant submissions; commissioner urges county response to proposed Medicine Wheel expansion

Treasurer Christina Vera presented Certified Local Government (CLG) grant applications for Kendrick Park pool locker rooms and bath house and for Sheridan City Hall, including completion of National Register nomination forms. Each application requested about $14,244.38; the county will contribute $2,500 per application from the Historic Preservation Commission's $10,000 annual allocation. Commissioner Lonnie Wright moved to approve submission of the CLG grant applications; the motion passed unanimously.
In Board updates Commissioner Mike Arzy flagged a separate land-use issue: he said the Northern Tribal Alliance is proposing to expand the Medicine Wheel Historic Preservation Plan from roughly 4,000 acres to 27,000 acres and warned this could affect roads, military sites, outfitters and tourism within Sheridan County. Arzy recommended the county draft a response and engage the U.S. Forest Service before the public-comment deadline at the end of the month.
