County clerk seeks job reclassification and temporary archivist to digitize decades of county records

The county clerk's office told commissioners it plans to withdraw a posted deputy-clerk vacancy and instead reorganize duties across three positions to create a higher-grade financial assistant who would handle auditing, payroll and accounts-payable review.
"The deputy clerk position no longer meets that," the clerk said, explaining that the workload now requires a position with a higher pay grade and auditing responsibilities. She said the change would not add a permanent position and that the reorganized roles would remain within the current approved budget.
The clerk also asked for a temporary data-archiving technician to digitize the office's backlog. "I have 20 file cabinets, 5 feet tall, full of board permanent files that need to be put into, digital format," she said, and described the role as temporary and to be funded from current budgeted monies until the work is completed. Commissioners said they would review updated job descriptions and salary grades once staff returns with proposed changes.
