Representatives of the Friends of the Murrieta Library presented a $120,000 check to the council to fund furniture, fixtures and equipment for the library’s new children’s reading room and said they had also voted to provide $65,500 for programs, performers and collections in the coming fiscal year.
A Friends spokesperson described revenue sources for the gift—local bookstore sales, membership and donations—and urged residents to support the organization’s bookstore locations. City staff flagged a construction amendment for the library project covering flooring replacement and ADA improvements; the city expects a closure of approximately two weeks starting July 19 to complete high-impact work and plans to reopen around August 3.
Council and staff thanked the Friends and said they will provide additional communication to patrons about the closure and program accommodations.
