Murrieta presents CIP progress: dog park, turf replacements and Cal Oaks master planning

Capital projects staff gave a status update on completed and upcoming parks projects. Completed items highlighted included the Glen Arbor Dog Park (completed in August 2025, total project cost reported as $1,100,000), replacement of turf at Los Alamos Hills Sports Park and new tennis court lighting at California Oaks Sports Park. Staff also noted a recent Alderwood pickleball ribbon cutting and resurfacing that increased courts to five.
On a higher‑priority item, staff said that Cal Oaks Sports Park revitalization will require a master plan and a needs assessment once CIP funding is authorized. "The first thing we're gonna be doing is, doing a full needs assessment and master planning of the entire site," the capital projects manager said, noting ADA compliance as a limiting constraint on what can be added.
Commissioners asked about the Torrey Pines baseball infield replacement (staff said the infield replacement addressed safety problems and was expected to open to leagues once gate mesh arrives) and about vandalism reductions after camera installations at park sites. Staff said cameras at California Oaks and Torrey Pines have reduced documented vandalism.
