Interim library manager outlines summer reading, new Libby access and staffing updates

Agnes Rita, the interim library manager, described a slate of summer reading and library programs tied to a "Plant a Seed, Read" theme and noted building renovation progress. She said the library received state and federal grant funds that helped subsidize renovation work and program support, and that Libby e‑book access has returned for Murrieta Public Library card holders.
"We are able to gain over $1,000,000 in grant funds through California State and, also federal grants that, subsidized our renovation...and I was able to apply to up to $250,000 worth of grants for programs and activities and books," Rita said. She outlined weekly children's programs (Dog Tales, chess club, Lego club), teen offerings tied to the country's 250th anniversary and adult programs aimed at older adults and people with disabilities.
Rita also gave staffing notes: a part‑time librarian was promoted to full time and a new part‑time hire will start May 18. Commissioners praised the breadth of programming and the library’s role in the community.
