Auditor reports 2026 budget outlook; Browns Valley Food Shelf and Historical Society requests noted

County Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson briefed commissioners on the county’s current budget position and early 2026 outlook. Johnson said the increase over 2025 is 17.33% so far but noted that the Social Services request is not yet included; she listed additional asks including $2,000 for the Browns Valley Food Shelf and $5,000 for the Browns Valley Historical Society and said this is the final year the county will budget for the jail bond.
Johnson said the Budget Committee will schedule a meeting to review the budget in more detail and meet with department heads as needed. Commissioners did not make final funding decisions at the meeting and asked staff for further budget detail during the September cycle.
