Board agrees to add small outside-agency grants, plus $5,000 contingency

The board agreed during a budget work session to add two recent outside-agency requests to the FY26 preliminary budget and to create a small contingency line for the year. Staff identified Amelia County 4-H's request for $1,000 and a $4,500 request from Virginia's Crossroads, the county's tourism organization.
"The Amelia County 4 h, they sent their request in…their request for f y 26 is for a $1,000," staff said when reporting the new submissions. Board members also approved adding the $4,500 tourism request and a $5,000 contingency line item to the outside-agency total. The board discussed where some prior tourism grant dollars had been used (village signs) and asked staff to place the items in the packet so members can see the full line-by-line amounts.
Board members asked staff to reconcile the outside-agency bucket with last year's approvals so the board can see what is a true incremental increase versus funds rolled into a single line. Staff committed to providing a detailed spreadsheet that separates previously approved outside-agency allocations from the new requests and the proposed contingency.
